Spain is well developed when it comes to the transport system and Madrid City is no exception. Transport in Madrid is served with the Metro (Underground lines), suburban railways, buses, car rental companies, taxis and the airlines in and out of the city. The public transport option works just fine in taking visitors round the city. This is more so because the private car hires can present difficulties when you have to find parking in the city. Besides, the trains, buses and Metro are safe and cheap to use.

Taking a train gives you an opportunity to enjoy the sceneries in Madrid. The Metro or underground system is the other transport option and this is divided into zones. You buy a ticket depending on which zone you want to travel or use a Tourist Travel Pass. You can use the Metro to get to and from the airport but if you want the train, the Metro will get you from the airport to where you can catch a train.

The Madrid Buses are identified with the red color. There are many bus lines serving Madrid and the good thing with them is that they have air conditioners, clean and comfortable. They are buses that work during the night and they also serve the airport area.

The taxis are easy to identify with the red diagonal strip and can be quite convenient to move around the city. There are also taxis available at the airport to take you to the city and these are perfect if you have luggage and getting to the bus will be a bit difficult. The taximeter inside the taxis determines the cost hence the longer you travel the more you pay. You are also charged depending on whether you are traveling during peak or off peak times. Some of the taxis accept credit card payments but generally payment is made in cash. There are Eurotaxis perfect when you have a lot of luggage or special needs.

There are a variety of rental car companies in Madrid where you can get a car to ride on your own though you will have to be used to the traffic to move around easily. The hired cars are also good for moving far away from the city to explore the surrounding villages of Madrid. The airport system is also well established and you can always get cheap flights in and out of Madrid.
