The Location and value for money. It was very close to everything we wanted to see and do as well as being close to the Metro to go futher. The rooms were a fair size and It was very quiet and safe.
    Negative:
The staff were very effecient to the point of being Robotic, no info or warm welcome. No iron was avaliable and only one pillow on the bed. The room was dark with only wall lights and the lobby was in total darkness whenever we got back of a night time. Bring a torch.but the value for money outweighed these issues

Extremely covenient location for exploring the old town. Interesting boutique style. Very well equipped room.
    Negative:
Lack of outlook: however, this is not really a criticsm as the central location prohibited it.

The location was its main asset. We were pleased we could eat at midday and evening at the outdoor restauarant which had a good range of prices. Although central the location was very quiet. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed. An excellent start to our stay near El escariol with our daughter and family.
    Negative:
Preffered the breakfast restaurant when it was on the very top floor on our last visit in 2010.

    Location.

    1. The bed cover had some left over by the previous guests, which created an impression that the room was not carefully cleaned. We notified the front desk immediately. 2. We did not take the breakfast but we were asked to pay when we checked out. Although the mistake was corrected, it should not happen in such a hotel. 3. The room suddenly lost power when I took the shower. Never had this situation before.

Excellent position. Very close to Sol, Opera and Calleo metro stations. Very easy access from airport – Renfe to N. Ministerios, then change to Renfe platform 8 and one stop to Sol. Hotel also very close to El Corte Inglese with great food department in basement. Hotel breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable, good quiet air con, bathroom large. Towels were good quality and larger than normal in hotels. No tea/coffee making facilities, so take your own kettle ! Staff very helpful in providing fresh milk.
    Negative:
    Only quibble, no kettle provided

The Palacio San Martin is a lovely hotel–a blend of history and modern convenience. The staff, and in particular, the front desk individuals are friendly, polite, and efficient. Indeed, I should further like to compliment Jose, who was especially helpful in many ways, and like his colleagues, made our two part six day stay so enjoyable. We would very much like to return to this hotel, and we highly recommend it.

Very central, quiet location, helpful staff. Free internet usage. Restaurant: discount card offered, so the more frequently you eat the greater the discount off your next meal. Able to eat in or outside, good food, range of prices, the drinks were not too expensive.
    Negative:
Breakfast prices seemed high so we tended to eat in local cafes.

Great central location right in the pedestrian area. Lot of shops and cafes and restaurants on every corner. Most major tourist attractions are within walking distance.

The hotel is situated in the “old town” part of Madrid, which makes it so easy to walk to all the tourists attraction. There is shops & restaurants nearby,if you dont fancy walking far in the evening after a busy day sightseeing. The marble lobby is impressive as is the old original lift. The hotel is located in a quiet street and you can not hear any noise @ night time, just to say its next to a convent & the bell rings every morning @ 6.30am. If you are aware of this it does not come as a shock ! I personally loved it. I wish I had known before my visit that you could do a tour of the convent. Our comfortable clean room looked out over the little plazza @ the front of the hotel which was lovely with the Chagall exhibit opposite & some great architecture nearby. All in all a perfectly situated for sight seeing. We never ate in the hotel so I cant comment on the food.
    Negative:
The only disaponting thing about the hotel was the bar staff. We liked to come back for a drink in the bar before bedtime but the staff were very unfriendly & sullen. Although the bar did not close until 12midnight they seemed to be in a hurry to get us out so they could go home.

Excellent Location. 2-3 blocks from major streets, yet in a small, reasonably quiet square. Friendly staff that held bags 4 hr. after check out. Great balcony on floor 5 and not much noise – room 509 I think. Tip: Good Laundry 3 blocks away. They do a load and can have it done in 4-6 hrs (Tintoreria Lavanderia on Plaza De Herradores 8 – walk down to Arenal and then up the other side about 1 1/2 blocks) 9-2 and 4-8 M-F. 9-5 on Sat. Tip 2., Eat at La Bola and get their soup/stew in a pot at Calle Bolla 5, about 4 blocks away. Very unique and good. Get reservations Price was good for what you get, especially location.
    Negative:
No free wi fi and only 1 PC available in lobby (usually available, but once someone sat there for 45 min). Shower was difficult to figure out (doubled as a steam bath), but at least door closed fully. Heat and A/C were ok, but not great. Elevator only 4 people or 2 with bags – but was not overly busy so no long waits. Breakfast a bit pricey, but lots of places serve within 2 blocks — coffee and toast for about 2 Euros.
