While in Spain we have stayed at three 4-star hotels and Hostal Sardinero. I can definitely say that we had our best time at Hostal Sardinero. At big hotels the customer service was pretty impersonal. People at Hostal Sardinero were very helpful, kind and accommodating. Upon our arrival we were briefed on where we can go for eating, shopping, sightseeing as well as places we should be careful in Madrid because pick pocketing is a big problem in Madrid. We had to depart at 3 am in the morning. First, the owner confirmed the taxi booking for us and when the taxi arrived accompanied us to the car at this early hour. As I was traveling alone with children, this was very much appreciated. The owner speaks pretty good English, so our communication was easy. In addition to excellent location (a short walk to Prado art gallery , plaza Mayor, and plaza Puerta Del Sol (subway), and depending if you get lost in the old town 15-20 min walk to Royal Palace), the hotel also provides a free Internet access. At other hotels we were offered to pay 12 Eur per day for this service. As it was our first time in Spain, I am very glad we very fortunate to stay at Hostal Sardinero and feel real Spanish hospitality.

Very friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortabe beds, ideally located near Santa Anna Square, with easy walking access to the Prado and other sights, as well as a less than 15-minutewalk to the airport bus. A bargain price.

The room was exceptionally clean (they changed sheets and towels daily), good size for 3 people, the staff was very friendly and helpful at all the time. The location was great for getting to shops, city attractions, airport, bar and restaurants, underground. I would definitely recommend it and I’d go back myself!
