We were really happy with the location, it is right in the heart of the city, yet tucked away in a very quiet side street. The building is full of character, with a wonderful wide wooden staircase and a quaint, albeit compact, open lift. The rooms are clean and suffcient and plenty of running hot water. The people who run the gonazales are extremely friendly and helpful, regardless of any language challenges. Universal sign languages is a wonderful tool! We will visit Madrid again and happy to stay at the Gonzales again. A little tip. The taxi from the airport is £40 Euros and the yellow airport bus stops 5-10 minutes from the hotel costs only 2 euros per person. If you head to the Palace Hotel in the Plaza de Canovas del Castillo (a large roundabout with a waterfall of Neptune in the centre and next door to a Starbucks) Gonzales is behind up Calle Cervantes and is on the 3rd floor (sharing the entrance with 3 other hotels).

If there was anything I would change it would be access to a hairdryer (for my wife) and access to wifi (for me)

Superb location for the price; only a block and a half from the Prado. Very clean rooms. Would stay there again next time I’m in Madrid.

It is so close to everything we wanted to see. The room was amazingly quiet for a city centre hotel facing the street. They were friendly and helpful and the room was larger than I was expecting for the price.
    Negative:
No plugs in the basin or bath!

There was nothing wrong with this hotel, it did what you needed it to do. No character though, however you don’t expect that at this price

Hostal Gonzalo is located about a 100 meters from Calle del Prado on Calle Cervantes! Del Prado and Thyssen Museums are short walking distances away. Staff, Jorge and Antonio are very professional, amicable and provide very clean facilities. Security is excellent. My husband and I will rebook with this hostal when we return to Madrid.
